Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has spent over 30 years capturing cinema halls, exposing the shot for the length of the whole film. The black and white images are stunningly calm and peaceful and yet transcend a sense of eeriness.
The series began as a result of a visit of his to the Natural History Museum where he found himself asking: ‘Suppose you shoot a
whole movie in a single frame?’. The response being ‘a single white frame’.
The series includes cinema halls all over the US from the famous Radio City Music Hall in New York to a Drive-in in Union City.
