‘Do not play with your food.’ Familiar words? Whether you’re a parent and using them yourself to teach teatime etiquette or have supper time memories of being scolded over creating plate ‘art’ you are bound to have come across this phrase at some point.

Whilst most of us listen and inevitably become advocates of the ‘not playing with our food’ concept, Spanish artists Alex Palazzi and Dani Raya did the exact opposite, in the process creating some unique lettering using a variety of sugary ingredients.

Anyone with a sweet tooth can appreciate the artistry that went into their work – first using clay to shape the font models and then coating with a sugarholic’s dream diet of candyfloss, bubblegum and ice cream. As Palazzi states, “It is an exploration of the possibilities of using materials on based typography sculptures”. View the whole creative process on Behance.
