Adobe and Macromedia are one
The deal is done, the ink is dry, and Macromedia has a new home. Following an announcement last April Adobe and Macromedia started the final preparations to merge the Macromedia product line into Adobe. On December 3, the transaction was finalized. The deal was worth about 3 Billion dollars. Macromedia brings to Adobe a number of cool new toys including Flash technology.
As a result of the merger Macromedia’s Stephen Elop has joined Adobe as president of worldwide field operations. Bruce Chizen remains as CEO of Adobe. However some Macromedia employees will either be relocated or downsized due to duplication in resources.
Macromedia investors will receive about 1.3 shares of Adobe common stock for every one share of Macromedia stock. In addition the Macromedia logo will not longer appear on new products.
Overall I think this is a good move for both companies. It combines some powerful technologies that will in the end benefit the consumer when working with digital content be it web, print, mobile, or video.
