Seagate Perpendicular Notebook Drive
New perpendicular storage device from Seagate. Don't know what perpendicular storage is? Well check it out.
After Hitachi’s press release in April detailing a 1-inch 20GB View image
microdrive with perpendicular recording, Seagate has announced the introduction of the Momentus 5400.3 a 2.5-inch notebook drive also using perpendicular recording technology.
If you remember from our explanation a few months back, perpendicular technology packs more information in a small space by turning the recording data on its side rather than flat to the surface as with existing longitudinal recording, to improve hard drive data density and storage capacity. Standing data on end also improves the reliability of read-write performance in demanding environments. The 160 GB drive by Segate is planned for availability this winter.View image
