Kodak announces high resolution CCD for Phase One

39 megapixel chip created by Kodak for Phase one.

Do you remember this summer when Phase One announced the P45 digital camera back? It would be the highest resolution medium format back offered at 39 megapixels. The question I had was who would make such a chip. Now I know. Kodak recently announced that they will provide the huge 39 megapixel CCD chip to Phase One. I am sure Kodak knows what they are doing but I have heard some concern by people who know that this might be pushing the limits of the CCD and image quality.

Read details below.

Kodak announces high-resolution image sensors for professional photography

Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, N.Y., USA, introduces new high-resolution image sensors that allow commercial, studio, and other professional photographers to capture digital images with the most life-like detail possible, says the company.

The Kodak KAF-39000 Image Sensor, featuring 39 million pixels, and the Kodak KAF-31600 Image Sensor, with 31.6 million pixels, offer professional camera and camera back manufacturers resolution and image detail that was once unimaginable for digital cameras, says the company, allowing photographers to experience a new level of image quality for portrait, wedding, landscape, fashion, studio, and commercial photography. These new CCD image sensors have already been selected for use by Phase One A/S for use in their upcoming P45 and P30 digital camera backs.

Kodak develops and supplies both CCD and CMOS image sensors for applications ranging from medical and industrial imaging to digital cameras and mobile phones for consumer markets. For more information, visit www.kodak.com/go/imagers.
