Nikon and Adobe work to support RAW format

Nikon and Adobe have kissed and made up.

Early reports from Nikon and Adobe show that the two companies have agreed to work together to build unified support for the RAW format. Not so long ago photographers had voiced their displeasure with Nikon locking out vital color and data information from Adobe and other third party RAW converter software. It appears from the posting on Adobe’s website that both Nikon and Adobe have “kissed and made up”. We have no word as to when the RAW files will be unlocked by Nikon or how exactly they will work together but their seems to be an end in sight.

If you remember back in April Nikon did announce that they were offering a SDK to programmers so the could translated the RAW file properly. This was a small step to the move of this announcement. Photographers will finally have the control they are looking for over their image data.

Nikon believes that the NEF file has provided important image quality through Nikon's pioneering developments. For the future, Nikon intends to cooperate with Adobe and other industry members in order to pursue its objective of providing images with better quality, convenience and usefulness to end users.
