Bad quarter for Kodak
When is Kodak the Godfather of imaging, going to start turning a profit? As you probably heard Kodak’s quarterly report indicated a 6% increase in digital sales but a major decrease in their high profit margin film business. As a result Kodak has decided to cut jobs by 10,000 employees. Having lived in Rochester and worked for Kodak this cut will leave a skeleton crew at the office.
If they learned anything last year they should not cut their marketing staff. Those guys kicked butt on last years digital cameras. Let’s face it they understood the customer (women) and made them buy Kodak cameras.
Now the guy who is forecasting film sales needs to make his forecast and then cut it in half. I am sick of hearing people say film is declining faster than we expected. Now I love film but film is dead. Milk the film business as much as you can but it isn’t going to pay the bills anymore.
Here is my suggestion Kodak, throw your best film secrets out in the market and raise the price on your film. Price wars are over on film, Fuji won that battle. Tell the world you saved the best for last and make those who haven’t switched to digital pay premium prices. Some will run to Fuji but I bet that the Kodak brand will still have some appeal to shoppers even at the high price point. Good luck.
So Kodak if you use my idea I do take cash or checks.
