Overused Stock Photos at Ford Motor Company
In a full page Time Magazine AD Ford Motor company features boring and overused stock photography. Wake up designers!
This is an advertisement I found in this weeks issue of Time magazine for the Ford Motor company. Many of you have probably seen the offer as well. Besides the fact that I missed the sale by purchasing my vehicle a day early this AD bothers me.
It is not so much as the AD itself but the photos used at the top. They are obviously stock images and I am very pro stock photography but if you look closely these images have been used for almost 10 years. I have seen many of these photos used in drug stores to sell pills and lotions, in Kodaks marketing campaigns to sell film and digital printing, and many other locations.
In a sense that is what stock photography is all about. A photographer can sell the image over and over again for many different uses. But the images still bother me. And heres why you would think a designer would understand that these images have been around for a long time. You would also think that Ford Motor Company would expect a new fresh look to their imagery. I know I am sensitive to these issues since I am in the industry and the average consumer may not even care but come on designers wake up. There are millions of other photos just as great if not better than these. They are not even that expensive any more. Do something creative! Find some new photos!
