Fotolia extracts EXIF information from photographs.

EXIF is the abbreviation of EXchangeable Image File. EXIF data is metadata encapsulated in the image file at the time of exposure. This information relates to the parameters of exposure and the adjustments of the camera at the time of the capture.

This information may contain:

• Make and model of the camera
  
• Dimensions of the image
  
• Date and hour of exposure
  
• technical information of exposure (shutter speed, focal length, distance, white balance, Flash settings, etc...)
  

The format EXIF was developed in October 1995 by JEIDA (Japan Electronic Industry Development Association). Version 2.0 was released in November 1997 and revision 2.1 was released in June of 1998.

Fotolia extracts all EXIF information from each photograph uploaded to the Fotolia Website. It is indeed possible to use EXIF information during image research. In particular, it is possible to search for photographs taken by a particular camera. This information is not always present in the image; it can be deleted by certain image editing programs.
