Turkey marks new Territory for Fotolia microstock

New York, NY, November 3, 2009 – The next wave of microstock continues as Fotolia becomes the first major microstock agency to launch localized web service in Turkey. www.fotolia.com.tr has affordable high-resolution stock photographs, illustrations, vectors, and HD videos. Fotolia is the leading European resource for corporations, designers, editors, and not-for-profit organizations looking for high-quality images for projects such as website design, brochures, promotional materials and products, as well as print, billboard, and television advertising.

“As the number one image provider in Europe, Fotolia is proud to be the first major microstock in Turkey”, says Oleg Tscheltzoff, CEO of Fotolia, LLC. “Our strong worldwide reputation will serve us well in this emerging market. Turkish corporations, designers, and entrepreneurs will benefit by saving on production costs with Fotolia’s images and videos.”

Images on www.fotolia.com.tr start at $1 USD. Fotolia’s royalty-free collection of over 7-million images come with standard royalty-free licensing, which means buyers are protected when they use an image within the terms and conditions of the site.

Akin Külhanbey, General Manager of Fotolia Turkey says, “Fotolia provides a secure platform for artists and consumers to exchange high-quality, royalty-free images. Artists are able to earn high commissions every time their stock images are downloaded from the site, whereas consumers can confidently make affordable purchases.”

When it comes to purchasing royalty-free images from Fotolia, buyers have flexibility with credit or subscription options. Images are sold by a credit value and start at one credit. On the Fotolia Turkey site, one credit holds a value of $1 USD.

Subscription plans are available in monthly and yearly packages, with up to 250 images a day for an unlimited number of users. Subscription plans start at $199 USD, and images can be purchased for as low as $0.14 per image. More information is available through www.fotolia.com.tr

Fotolia has shown steady growth since its inception nearly five years ago. Turkey marks the 12th region to join the Fotolia enterprise.

Creative Freedom with new Fotolia Add-in designed exclusively for Microsoft Office 2007 Applications

NEW YORK, NY, October 14, 2009 – Fotolia, LLC is releasing a new add-in ribbon for Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 that gives customers easy access to an enormous library of easy-to-search, high-resolution images and vectors. The Fotolia ribbon provides instant image solutions to complement personal and professional projects. The downloadable ribbon is available on www.fotolia.com/ribbon and features controls that allow users to login, view accounts and search Fotolia’s library of over 7-million high-resolution files without leaving their Microsoft Office document.

Hovering over search results lets users preview the image. A simple double click inserts a free comp of the image into the document, allowing customers to try before they buy. Once members see a photograph, vector or illustration they are interested in, they can purchase it while still in their document by selecting download and the appropriate size and license.

“Connecting Fotolia’s online image library directly to Word and PowerPoint is a great productivity win for our customers,” said Rob Ashby, Group Manager for Office.com. “The add-in’s use of the ribbon makes finding and using the right images fast and easy, without customers having to leave their work.”

Fotolia is making huge strides in the online photography and image industry. Founded in 2005 in New York City, the company quickly expanded to 12 countries and represents portfolios of some of the most respected agencies and artists. A commitment to providing high-quality, affordable images expanded the relationship with Microsoft, which offers a free collection of Fotolia images and illustrations to Microsoft Office customers through Microsoft Office 2007.

“Using the ribbon enabled Fotolia to increase the services we offer to over 1.3 million members by creating an easy, integrated experience,” says Garth Johnson, Fotolia Executive Vice President, North America. “Now, Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 users have instant in-document access to Fotolia’s library of over 7-million royalty-free images and the best licensing options in the business.”

Purchasing images from Fotolia through Microsoft Word 2007 and Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 using the add-in is easy: select the size of the image or graphic and a standard or extended license option. Only Fotolia offers standard and extended licensing with every image purchase, and the licenses are free of seat restrictions and run limits.

Once the image is downloaded into the user’s document, users are free to use the Fotolia file with no limit on time, copies or geographical placements. Images on Fotolia are truly royalty-free.

The hire comes on the heels of the announcement that former iStockphoto co-founder, Patrick Lor, has been hired to lead Fotolia's North American Operations.

“Fotolia has continued to be an innovative pioneer in the microstock space. They continue to democratize the microstock industry, keeping stock imagery affordable for small business owners, non-profit
organizations, and other groups that would otherwise not be able to afford the costs of licensing imagery associated with other companies,” says Lor, President of Fotolia, North America. “A major goal for Fotolia is the continued expansion of our offerings through strategic partnerships with businesses around the world. Garth proved his competency in our previous work together, and he will make a valuable addition to Fotolia's already talented team.”

Johnson will be responsible for overseeing business development and strategic partnership opportunities for Fotolia North America, which currently has a presence in 11 countries worldwide. He will be working with Lor and Fotolia's co-founder and CEO, Oleg Tscheltzoff, on continued expansion strategies for the company, which has nearly four million monthly unique visitors (comScore), more than five million images available for license and more than 1 million members worldwide.

“I've really admire Fotolia's strategy and innovation in the marketplace," adds Johnson, of his decision to join the Fotolia team. "They have remained true to their vision of providing the highest quality imagery to media buyers for the lowest possible cost, making it possible for small businesses to legally access stock imagery that, in many cases, is essential to the success of their business, for use in creation of brochures, advertisements, Web sites and other promotional materials. Now, more than ever, with small businesses struggling to compete, Fotolia is empowering the small and home business owner. It will be a pleasure to work with the team to ensure that more businesses have access to our image library through strategic partnerships in North America."

Johnson and Lor both joined the Fotolia team on the heels of the announcement of Fotolia's expansion into the microstock video market, which was launched on April 28.

"We are pleased to be announcing our four millionth image,” says co-founder and president Oleg Tscheltzoff. “Fotolia has, since conception, prided ourselves in bringing together top photographers and illustrators with a wide variety of media buyers. will give users four tiers of subscription access to its image library
of nearly 4 million stock images.

"The Fotolia corporate subscription service grants customers complete
control over media buying, enabling account owners to manage multiple
users within a single organization tied to a central account."
explains Oleg Tscheltzoff, co-founder and president of Fotolia, LLC.
"This allows corporations more control over tracking microstock
purchases without the need to open multiple accounts. As always, our
able to tie unlimited user IDs to a central account, which will make
media purchases and itemization much more efficient. Through a central
account, multiple users will also be able to access a central bank of
credits for media purchases, without the need for an accounting
department to monitor remaining credits on multiple accounts.

The packages offer customers ease of use, giving the administrator of
the account total control over the media buying process. Features
include the flexibility to download 25 to 250 images per day,
automatic renewal of your subscription, unlimited number of users, and
flexible subscription options for your organization's needs. For more
information on the service, or to subscribe, visit
Washington State Convention & Trade Center
The Art of Photo Painting Tour
This casual one day seminar sponsored by Kelby Training was definitely worth attending. Taught by internationally recognized artist, photographer, and trainer Faye Sirkis - she took us through the history of art and how to implement the techniques of the ages to create a digital masterpiece by showing you the tips, tricks and secrets behind using Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter X.

It was just amazing the way she would recapture the essence of beauty, form, and substance of by gone ages that continue to influence the way we work today. She shared with us the story behind the images she worked on, adding the emotional touch to her work.

The way she would give the face energy and individuality by applying those fine details to render the expression of the soul was the part of the seminar that I enjoyed the most.

If you have the chance of attending this seminar I would encourage you to do it!

The music of spring is so full of nature. Spring is not just about flowers blooming, butterflies and rain showers. Spring is the theme of life after the dead of winter.
So shake winter off and catch the essence of Spring! Go back in time and think of what reminds you of this season.

In my case, the mood of William Shakespeare reminds me of spring. In a humorous and lyrical way he would create and capture the essence of the spring season.

With the emotional change of the beautiful aspects of spring he would emphasize his feelings and fears. Shakespeare would imply everything we understand about the seasons of the year in our lives and the phenomena of spring.

So now is your turn to share with us the images of your spring memories.

The contributor who uploaded most images in the 3 million seconds after our image 3 million is Mrs. Ana Liza S. Steiert from Berlin with the impressive number of 3,719 images. With Ana we found a particularly typical Fotolian who perfectly reflects what Fotolia is about. She was born 1965 in the Philippines. Following a career in the hotel and catering sector she has lived and worked in Macau, New Delhi, Dubai, Cairo and Berlin. Ana’s husband Oliver is a famous chef granting her access to the knowledge and ingredients necessary for food photography. Most of her images are actual co-productions with Oliver. Ana sent us a very private and interesting letter describing her photographic career and illustrating her story with images from her private album. Ana writes:

My grandfather told me to cherish my photos, so that one day when somebody asks me where I was coming from, I only need to show my photos …

After my grandfather’s death in 1987, I left the Philippines and landed a job at the Mandarin Oriental, Macao – where I first met Oliver. In 1990, I left my job there as Training Manager to join Oliver in the Philippines. Two weeks after I arrived in BaguioCity, a strong earthquake struck, killing hundreds of people and destroying the Hyatt Terraces Hotel where Oliver was working. We survived it without any scar, and the rest is history…

Tomorrow is grandpa’s 21st death anniversary. This year Oliver and I will celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary with 3 energetic children. And we stumbled on Fotolia almost exactly a year ago – while we were trying to set up our own Art Print Design website. Fotolia has a fantastic set-up for buyers and sellers. The amazing range of photos cater to different needs of a wide variety of people, from real-life snapshots to highly sophisticated ones.

Our photo technique is a mixture of experience, relationship with the subject and technology. We are using Olympus SLR digital camera with 10 million pixels, standard lens 14-42mm, angle viewfinder plus expodisc filter. Most of our photos are shot in daylight. Oliver the passionate chef in our family has over 25 years of experience.

We congratulate Ana (and Oliver)who earned herself 3,000 Credits and we want to thank all other contributors who took part in this contest. You all are winners because your images will be generating sales.

With far above 14,000 images Ana Liza is one of the most industrious photographers on Fotolia. So it is no surprise that she won this contest. Check out her portfolio!

Be my valentine

One of the stories tells that St. Valentine was a Roman who broke the law and married people in secret.
Another story tells that he was a priest that also cared for the sick. But in this story he was executed merely for his beliefs. And on the day he was to be executed (February 14) he had a visitor and gave her a note to reassure her that said "from your Valentine" -- this seems to be the origin of the tradition.
So I thought that today we could just enjoy the tradition of February; the month of LOVE. Here are some fun superstitions to try out:

Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine's Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire.

Some people said if you found a glove on the road on Valentine's Day, your future beloved will have the other missing glove.

Some believed the first man's name you read in the paper or hear will be the name of the man you will marry.

Pick a dandelion that has gone to seed. Take a deep breath and blow the seeds into the wind. Count the seed that remain on the stem, and that is the number of children you will have.

Or, cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you can also tell how many children you will have.

Happy Valentines Day! Enjoy, have fun and get ready to meet your TRUE LOVE!
