Free Section
Photographers and designers have the choice to offer their images free to members of Fotolia if Fotolia does not accept them. If a member offers their image to the free section, the photograph will be accessible via the search engine in the free photo section. The image will be sold at the price indicated by the photographer if Fotolia accepts the image.
Photographs voluntarily proposed for free by their author (selling price Web = 0 and print = 0) and accepted by Fotolia will be considered as free photographs and their authors will thus enjoy the advantages of the free section.
A designer or photographer may offer their images in the free section under a different name than their Fotolia account name. In essence, a photographer/designer may have two aliases with Fotolia to protect their identity if desired. They may make this change by logging into their account and editing their My Profile information under the Member Home page.
Why should I offer my photographs for free?
- For the income: Fotolia is setting up an innovative advertising solution in the free section of the website (Adthumb). Photographers and designers are proportionally paid (based on downloads and number of photographs on the website) from advertising revenue.
- To develop community: offering free photos will draw a large number of people some of whom will spend money thus benefiting the whole Fotolia community.
- When a photo in the free section exceeds 300 downloads (from different members) and upon approval from the photographer, the photo will be automatically re-integrated to the normal section of the Fotolia database.
Free section download limits
The people downloading the free photographs must be a member of Fotolia and must agree to observe the conditions of each license and contract. Moreover, a member cannot download more than 300 free photographs per month (a maximum of 10 per day).
To withdraw a photograph from the free section
Photographers/Designers may withdraw photographs from the free section at any time; by simply clicking on a delete link in there my photos section.
To add a photograph to the free section
Photographers/designers must decide before hand to add pictures to the free section in the event their pictures are refused by our editing team as long as the image was not refused for legal or moral reasons. In addition, the photo must not have been uploaded after September 1st 2005.
