How do you download a model and property release?
Fotolia offers personalized model releases to you for various situations (pictures of a minors, pictures of models, and photographs of personal property).
To obtain these releases, photographers need to create an account on Fotolia. Then, on the member home page, click on the heading information and rights then click on Download releases.
While clicking on a release, a HTML format model/property release will be displayed. Photographers can print or save the page many times. Note that these releases are pre-filled thanks to the information provided at time of registration.
After photographers have the releases printed, they should have the models sign the agreements and then digitize them via scanner or digital camera. Photographers should save the files as either a jpg or pdf file and upload the signed release to Fotolia when submiting photographs. Pictures of people or personal property will not be accepted without a signed release.
Attach a release to a photo
During the editing process, you can upload releases attached to your photos:
- 1 – Your releases must be less than a 1Mb JPEG or PDF. (scan the release)
- 2 – Click Browse to find your file
- 3 – Select release type from the list
- 4 – Click ADD to add release
- 5 – Repeat these steps for each release document.

Yes you need to provide a model release for every recognizable person, even pictures of your own children.

I looked at all three releases in English. The adult/minor and the property release all seem to be the same. Am I missing something?

If you do not have a model release for a picture of a person then you can not upload that image to Fotolia.

Can one model release cover all photographs for the model over a period of time, or do I need a specific model release each seperate occasion or "session" I take photographs of that person?

If you model allows and the documentation clearly states that the model release is for more than one session then it is ok. However if it is not clear then you will need more than one model release.

Yes even self portraits require a model release. You will sign as both the model and photographer.

Do I have to use your model release? I have very basic model releases for pictures i took many years ago. Will those work? I have no way to get a hold of those people now.
Also, I took some pictures of people in other contries. I'm thinking of one specifically in Cuba. Do I have to have a release on her? I also have no means to contact them? What are my options?

You can submit your own model releases but they must be legal.
Every image uploaded with people in it must have a model release. We do not bend the rules on this ever.
