How will Fotolia pay photographers who offer photos in the Fotolia free section?
When a photograph is offered in the Fotolia free section, other Fotolia members may download the image for free. But thanks to revenue generated from our advertising program photographers will earn money just by displaying their images in the free section.
Using a new form of advertising in the Fotolia free section called Adthumb we are able to generate income for both Fotolia and participating artists. Fotolia and artists will split the advertising money (50/50).
Participating artists receive monthly revenue proportional to the number of members who downloaded images from the free section and proportional to the number of downloaded images from the free section .
Example:
Now let us say Fotolia generates $2000 of monthly revenue from free section advertising. And 100 members download images from the free section. How much will an artist earn from Customer A who downloaded 10 pictures and Customer B who downloaded 5 pictures?
Let us explain:
50% of the advertising money is paid to Fotolia to cover company fees. The remaining 50% is divided by the amount of visiting members to create a “virtual payment” per member. Then the “virtual payment” is divided by the number of photos downloaded per member and the photographer is paid based on the number of downloads from that member.
$2000 x 50% = $1000
$1000 / 100 = $10 per member (virtual payment)
$10/ photos downloaded by each member = price per photo
Customer A downloaded 10 pictures so their downloads are worth $1 each
Customer B downloaded 5 pictures so their downloads are worth $2 each
The artist is paid $1 from customer A and $2 from customer B for each photo they downloaded.
The artists who will earn the most money are they who manage to have maximum pictures downloaded by many different downloading members.
