Pretec 16GB CompactFlash Card

Pretec released released a 16GB CF card, the first and highest capacity CF card in the world. These compactflash cards will become standard kit for photographers before too long.

This new card holds 4000x as much data as the very first one produced by Pretec just 10 years ago.

But you can't buy it JUST yet.

Constructed with reliable SLC NAND flash devices and rugged metal housing with CF Type II form factor, Pretec 16GB CF card is also offered with wide operating temperatures for industrial and military applications.

Although I'm not sure that Fotolia's stock photographers will be in many of those environments very often, I'm sure for a small handful that is really good news.

Pretec is the only company in the world to provide Secure CF card, although the host device BIOS or firmware needs to be modified to fully utilize the security features.

Access speed can be up to 80X (12MB/s) for Pretec industrial CF card and up to 133X (20MB/s) for Pretec commercial CF card.

Pretec 16GB CF card will start sampling in October with mass production expected in November-December 2006.

If you like the latest gadgets, keep an eye on these and whether any new equipment you buy in 2007 can use it.
