Paris Court Drops Charges Against A British Photographer
Today, a Paris court threw out charges against a British photographer who was accused of invasion of privacy when he took and published intimate photos of Diana, Princess of Wales, and boyfriend Dodi Fayed shortly before they were killed in a car crash in August 1997.
The case was brought against photographer Jason Fraser by Mohammed Al Fayed, Dodi's father. The case was brought over pictures of the couple on a yacht owned by Dodi Al-Fayed while it was off Portofino, Italy.
Last month state prosecutor Alexandre Aubert argued in court that the yacht constituted "a private place in which two people were surprised in their intimacy". He urged the court to convict Jason Fraser.
The Paris criminal court dropped the charges. Details for the decision were not immediately available. It wasn't clear whether prosecutors or Al-Fayed would appeal the ruling.
The photos made headlines across Britain in the last few days of August 1997.
