A photographer famous for shooting celebrities as they went about their daily lives has died.
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, he began working as a photographer and picture editor at Life.
In 1955 John Bryson became a freelancer for magazines Life, Look and Holiday and other publications His well-known works were pictures of Ernest Hemingway kicking a beer can in the snow and Salvador Dali wearing a crown made of sausages.
In 1992 he published the book "The Private World of Katharine Hepburn" with his pictures of Hepburn. He also published a book on Armand Hammer titled "The World of Armand Hammer," in 1985. He took pictures of celebrities like Ernest Hemingway, Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Clint Eastwood, Jason Robards Jr., Frank Sinatra, John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev.
Bryson dabbled in acting as well, appearing in Sam Peckinpah's
"The Getaway," "Convoy" and "The Osterman Weekend," and playing himself in John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix."
Bryson died Wednesday at a retirement home in Brookings, Oregon. He was 81.
