Kodak is Number One!

Kodak is number one in digital camera sales according to a report issued by the IDC, a research firm located in Framingham, MA. According to the same report Kodak shipped 4.88 million “point and shoot” digital cameras to US retailers in 2004 beating long standing leader Sony. Sony shipped 4.33 million cameras in 2004. As digital camera sales continue to rise Sony has begun to lose market share to Kodak and other major digital camera players like Canon, and Olympus.

While Kodak’s digital camera division was profitable last year for the first time its aim is to gain far bigger margins on coated paper, ink, ribbons, and other Kodak accessories according to an AP article published earlier this month in the Sun Times.
