What is RSS?

RSS is abbreviation of Really Simple Syndication. It is a standard derived from XML technology that simply distributes the hierarchical contents of XML websites and blogs. This file is updated each time new information is added. To read this file, a RSS reader is necessary in order to see the information in an understandable and organized way.

Why is it used?

Technology RSS enables you to receive in real time any topic sent by a blog or website using the RSS format.

Here’s an example: Everyday you read a news blog and a photography website that use the RSS technology. Instead of visiting those websites to see if something new is available the information can be sent to you. With the help of an RSS reader and the links to the RSS pages you will be notified every time something new is posted on you the blog or photography website. Once the information is downloaded to your reader you don’t even have to be connected to the internet to read them.

How does it work?

To be able to read a RSS file, you need a RSS reader. This reader is a simple application which makes it possible on the one hand to review the information contained in an understandable format and which, in addition, the program checks for new RSS feed information. Each time that you see a RSS logo (orange colored button) or a RSS link then cut and paste this link into your reader under the heading create a new feed.
